The ice skating rink and Christmas tree are set up on Union Square; holiday season songs are playing in every store, and downtown is busy with shoppers... It's definitely that time of year! We've decorated the salon this year, but we are judiciously restrained in the playing of holiday music. Our sense is to be oasis of calm during the holidays! If you need an extra boost in that direction, we suggest booking your appointments on Thursdays, when we'll be having our Wine Hours from December 15th until Januray 15th.

On top of hairstyling tools like the GHD stylers which can make easy gifts for your friends and family, we are also happy to mail or email gift certificates to you or your friends. Britney, our former assistant, has graduated to Junior Stylist. She is now accepting clients and can offer affordable haircuts.

The holiday season begins

We held our first Halloween costume contest via Facebook and Twitter. Congratulations to Celine, who took part and won $100 in Bonacure and Osis products.
A great photoshoot came together a few weeks ago. Anastasia got to showcase her work, and we were lucky to be able to collaborate with Cop Copine boutique, which recently opened across Union Square from us. Cop Copine and Atelier Emmanuel are also offering a joint promotion to celebrate French Fashion and style, starting November 16th.
We just received the Morrocan Oil. It is a must have! It's such a versatile hair product, that it will make a good gift for many hair types.

Our latest photoshoot took place on a downtown rooftop with downtown as our background. Anastasia went with strong, vibrant red tones for the hair, that popped against the neutral winter colors of her outfits and the cityscape. The hair was styled in a wavy bob, echoing a 40's glamor. Our model, Lipa, was outfitted with 3 different ensembles from Cop Copine: an elegant overall choquette, a chic yet cosy black dress (morrison) and a beautiful coat (Karima).

Elisa Cicinelli kindly accepted to collaborate with us on this project. Elisa specializes in wedding photography and serves as adjunct professor at the Academy of Art University in SF. Her background also includes photojournalism. She describes her work as "very fine art with a very romantic, soft mood and elegant style."

The Original Morrocan Oil

Discover the making-of of our Bridal photoshoot in July

Last July, Atelier Emmanuel, Arrowood photography and Ossai Design partnered to organize a photoshoot dedicated to brides. Tara has an extensive portfolio of wedding shoots, but wanted to work on something a little "leftfield" and innovative. Partnering with Kevin Meynell, a frequent collaborator, the photoshoot took shape: elegant brides wandering in an alley full of graffiti. Azadeh Couture kindly lent us 5 gowns and Zhalika from Ossai Design arrayed them with beautiful sashes.

Darby created an avant-garde look weaving an Ossai Design headpiece into a hyper-sculpted updo for a model she used Savannah, kindly provided to us by Look Model Agency. Charles played the glamour angle with Nora, also from Look Model Agency. Our own Tracie handled makeup.
We shot in the Mission on July 14th. It was probably one of the hottest days of the summer! The heat kept Tracie busy touching up the makeup so that the models looked cool, even if the rest of us were wet with sweat. We even had someone on point with an umbrella to shield the models in between shots. Keep your eye out for the shoot to show up in print soon. Meanwhile, here's our little behind-the-scenes slideshow.

Brazilian Blowout

Every Atelier Emmanuel stylist is now trained to offer either the Brazilian Blowout or the Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola.
Both are keratin treatments free of formaldehyde, and so does not damage the hair; both leave hair smooth and frizz-free for up to 3 months.
So what is the difference between the 2?

• The Brazilian Blowout leaves a little more body & volume to the hair. The Keratin Complex by Coppola has a stronger effect, leaving the hair flatter

• You can immediately wash you hair after a Brazilian Blowout, whereas you have to wait 3 days after the Keratin Complex

Anastasia, a hairstylist with 15 years experience in New York and Boston, joined our team at the beginning of July. We are pleased to have someone of her caliber join us! A final addition to our team is our new receptionist, Candice. You will learn more about her in upcoming weeks.

Escape into the fantastic at Gregangelo Museum

On June 23rd, we had an exciting photoshoot, featuring the work of Charles and Emmanuel. Our models were: Marjorie, a model from Look Model Agency and Julie, one of Charles' clients. The focus was on womens' short hair styles. The session was photographed by our longtime collaborator Tara Arrowood of Arrowood Photography.

The photoshoot took place at the Gregangelo Museum (see picture), a location full of Magic. Like past reviews of the museum have said, walking through the front door was a little like stepping through Alice's looking glass. Gregangelo Herrera, founder of Gregangelo Circus and the arts & entertainment troupe Velocity, has turned what was a standard house into a nonstop treat for the senses. No surface has been untouched by his whimsical flight through realms of the imagination. We were lucky to shoot in both the Solstice and Galaxy rooms.

What is a Hot Stone massage ?

A Hot Stone Massage is a specialty massage which uses smooth, heated stones.

They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release. The various shapes and sizes of stones permit specific work to be done. While the therapist works with particular stones, others rest along your body. The weight and heat of the stones help to unwind muscles, building up overall relaxation that complements the work of the therapist.

What are the steps?
* Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them water.

* The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding heated stones. As the stones cool, the therapist replaces them, maintaining continuous waves of warmth.

* The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, or in the palms of your hand, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.

Chiquita has been working in the health care field as a certified nursing assistant for over 12 years. Building off this experience, she trained at the National Holistic Institute of Massage therapy. Chiquita has a foundation in Swedish, Shiatsu, and Deep Tissue massage modalities. She also offers Hot Stone massage treatments.
