Holiday Treats : Hot Stone Massage

This is the treat for Winter! A Hot Stone Massage is a specialty massage which uses smooth, heated stones and oil. Stones are both placed along the body and used for deep effleurage strokes, similar to a regular massage. The relaxation of the massage plus the warmth and weight of hot rocks equals an amazing release of tension. A Hot Stone Massage lasts 90 minutes. From December 15th to January 15th, Hot Stone Massages are being offered for $120 (a savings of $30 from the regular price of $150).

Elana

Elana joined the Atelier Emmanuel team in May of 2010. She is a Bay Area native who previously worked in the film industry in Los Angeles, and continues to write and edit screenplays in her free time She trained at the Cinta Aveda Institute as well as the Vidal Sassoon Academy.
She now trains in cut and color technique with Emmanuel and our senior stylists every Tuesday at 4.30 pm. Give us a call if you are interested to be a model!

New service : Soak Off Gel Nail Polish

If you’ve never been good at having your nail polish last more than an hour, our manicurist April has a solution for you: the Soak-Off Gel Nail Polish. Meet Nora

Nora joined the team of Atelier Emmanuel as a part-time front desk manager in September. She spent most of her life in Paris where she received her Master's Degree in History Of Art from the Sorbonne. She is also a globe trotter who has worked and studied in Rome, Havana, New York City and, now, San Francisco. Nora's career has focused on the contemporary art world and now she is discovering the world of beauty.

Behind the scenes of RF Vegetal Styling System demo with famous French stylist Philippe Tapprest

Charles and Pauline had the opportunity to translate for Philippe Tapprest during his kinetic 3 day demo tour in San Francisco. Philippe is a famous French hairstylist and Rene Furterer’s worldwide artistic director. Check out the pictures!
During the 3 day tour, Rene Furterer’s new VEGETAL styling system was introduced:
- Vegetal Styling gel with Cakile extract - strong hold
- Vegetal Holding Mousse with Cakile extract - structured volume
- Vegetal Finishing Spray with natural Cakile extract - Satin finish
Cakile extract locks moisture in the cuticle and prevents hair from getting dry - a common problem with many hairstyling products.
Shadowing Philippe while he played with hair and transformed styles was an incredible experience. He is a real artist, who can sculpt and create everything with hair. He really showed the potential of Rene Furterer hairstyling products. Philippe’s fave product was the Vegetal Finishing Spray to finish styles, but also create original styles and updos. Charles is excited to incorporate these lesson into how we design your look.

La Soirée, The 29th Beaujolais & Beyond Festival

The “Beaujolais Nouveau” is coming soon… This annual event celebrates the harvesting and release of the first wine of the year with a traditional tasting of the Beaujolais Nouveau that takes place at the same time in France and all over the world.

For this occasion, the French American Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco is organizing its annual fundraising event on Friday, November 19th, La Soiree Beaujolais and Beyond Festival. A month of Fashion and Colors

Fall is a very colorful season in France. Trees covered with gold, orange, red and brown leaves, bring a sense of warmth even as we ease out of summer. The colors of Fall inspired us to do a color promotion this month. On a similar theme, Britney writes about "Ombré", a color trend which gradually transitions your look when you want to make a change.

Meet Stephanie

Stephanie began her career 15 years ago in San Francisco. She has since worked in Los Angeles, New Jersey and New York City doing both hair and makeup. She has studied the different methods and techniques of Vidal Sassoon, Redken, Bumble and Bumble, Toni and Guy, American Crew and MAC Cosmetics. Stephanie traveled the US as a platform artist with the ICE beauty shows. She is familiar with a vast range of hairstyling and coloring techniques due to the wide variety of clientele she has enjoyed over the years. It is a graduation of color from dark at the roots to light ends, which more or less looks like you have some seriously grown out color-but done with style. Its the same idea of distressed jeans. They’re ripped, faded and trendy, definitely not boring. “Rooty” hilites have always been fashionable but this takes it to a whole new level. Roots are dark-natural and fade into a lighter shade from mid-shaft to the ends, all while keeping warmth and light around the face. It’s a very beachy, natural look without being boring... And it is not just for blondes! Look around and you’ll see it on celebrities in different variations from the more subdued, subtle look of Camila Alves to the trendy extreme flashes of color of Drew Barrymore. Photoshoot

In our most recent photoshoot, Charles took short styles to long hair. The first look is a combo of a rock urban outfit with a 30's hair and make-up look. Michaela has long hair that Charles pinned into a bob. A good way to adopt a new look for a special occasion without cutting. Michaela wears a short blue silky Baum und Pferdgarten skirt, a white tank top from Swildens and a leather jacket (Bruuns Bazar). With the wind blowing that day, it was hard to keep the style in place!
But that wind worked fine with our second look, a crazy chic style with a sparkling evening dress from Erotokritos and backcombed hair.
The kinetic session was shot by Tara and Kevin, our frequent photoshoot collaborators.

European Fashion at LA BOUTIQUE

The outfits used in our recent photoshoot come from La Boutique: l'Art et la Mode, a new address for Fashion and Arts lovers, that opened in San Francisco’s Jackson Square last March. The store mixes European ready to wear designers, hard to find accessories, vintage eclectic objects, a gallery, and showroom.
La Boutique’s founder Carole Harari, wanted to represent how San Francisco perennially carries both an American feel and a Western European one and want “to fuse both cultures at La through fashion and art.
La Boutique stocks an eclectic selection of highly curated European clothing labels. The majority of the labels featured are emerging designers, like Aleksandra Wiesenewska and Collection 66, paired with established “cult” European favorites like MM6 by Maison Martin Margiela, Vanessa Bruno athé and Zadig & Voltaire.
As a gallery, La Boutique features a different artist installation every quarter. September 15th marks the opening of a new exhibition about French fashion house Cacharel. Cacharel’s Fall/Winter looks will be showcased alongside Bort’s photography of Cacharel’s creative process from drawing to runway. The exhibition lasts until December 31st.

Jeriel has been a licensed massage therapist for the past 7 years. She creates a calm and nurturing environment for each of her customized therapeutic massage sessions. She works with you as a client and a friend to understand and address issues of chronic tension in the body, encouraging client empowerment and awareness. Jeriel Studied and at Hirudaya Holistic Life center in San Luis Obispo learning many different modalities including Swedish massage, hot stone, prenatal, aromatherapy, reflexology, deep tissue, oncology, breath and energy work.
After practicing for the last seven years in Chiropractic, medical and spa environments Jeriel has developed a confident and diverse approach to bodywork. Jeriel studied Oncology massage under the pioneer oncology massage teacher Gail McDonald. Through an intensive workshop and classes, she was one of the first to become a practitioner of oncology massage. Jeriel’s goal is to help you find a balanced life by creating holistic connections between mind and body through regular sessions and self-care. You too can lead a calmer, and a more fulfilled life.

Margarita

Margarita Camarena CMT, RMT, was trained at the San Francisco School of Massage and got her Reiki Master Teacher degree by RMT Dr. Eric Rubin. She has a nurturing healing touch and powerful body, mind, spirit connection which guides her healing practice. Her holistic intuitive healing is a natural extension of the work she has been doing over the years with color, energy, spirit, and creative visualization. In her palette of modalities, Margarita offers Swedish, trigger point therapy, deep tissue, craniosacral, stretching and mobilization, and Reiki. She uses multiple modalities to reach the goals desired for the massage. Whatever blend of bodywork is offered in a massage session, the outcome for you is an immediate sense of reconnection to your body.

Summer is the time of the year where we change our diet, become more active outdoors, and rejuvenate our bodies. The sun calls us to spend more time outside and get healthier. Massage is a great way to continue and deepen the process of body detoxification and cleansing. Getting a massage aids the body by getting rid of toxins left behind by a sluggish metabolism, poor nutrition or accumulated stress. Massages help with every aspect of body functioning. Once your circulation improves and the body is rid of needless toxins, you will see improvement in your digestion, it will speed up the process of weight loss, and will also contribute to clearing skin of impurities.

Depending on your body needs, we can apply our experience to create a personalized approach to your massage. We can do a more focused massage that consists of brushing technique to promote circulation, a lymphatic drainage massage or visceral manipulation. You can also choose a regular therapeutic or relaxing massage and add an extra half hour for the additional services listed above. We recommend that you do at least four sessions to really feel the full benefits of these therapeutic visits.

Welcome Hervé!

Ardently and diligently trained, Hervé has worked internationally, from Bordeaux to Paris and NYC. His resume includes experience with known photographers, cinematographers, directors, celebrities from the fashion and movie industry. Herve worked for high-end French salon Jacques Dessange. He has partnered with product development departments in the global cosmetics industry, such as Milbon USA.

Hervé sees himself as a craftsman and artist, and very much in tune with the ethos our salon: excellence in every aspect of hair beauty, with personal attention to each clients' individual style and concerns. Herve finds the way to shape a look to you, not you to a look. The result is an innate expression of you.

Beauty Shop Culture

This Beauty Shop Culture exhibition featured photography and found objects by Candacy Taylor. It was presented with the participation of SOMARTS Cultural Center at Atelier Emmanuel from May 17th to June 11th.
The show explores the beauty shop as a community-based institution, and the manner in which it represents cultural issues of gender, race, class and identity.

The month of May has started out pretty busy at Atelier Emmanuel! We are very happy to announce the arrival of 3 new staff members. This month we'll introduce you to Matthew, who joined as a vibrant colorist. Among his repertoire of coloring skills, Matthew hopes to make balayage a client favorite. Find out more about him below, and about our other new staff members next month. Starting next week, Atelier Emmanuel is hosting Beauty Shop Culture, a photo and found object exhibition. The show was created by Candacy Taylor and will be on display for a month. We hope to see you at the Opening Night, Wednesday, May 19th!
We had another photoshoot recently. Elisa Cicinelli, the shoot's photographer, has picked out some faves for you to check out.
