This monthlong exhibition of photography and found objects by Candacy Taylor is presented with the participation of SOMARTS Cultural Center. It's an outtake from a larger showing held at Somarts recently. Beauty Shop Culture explores the beauty shop as a community-based institution, and the manner in which it represents cultural issues of gender, race, class and identity.
Candacy A. Taylor is an award-winning photographer, writer and cultural critic. She is the author of Counter Culture: The American Coffee Shop Waitress. Atelier Emmanuel will host Beauty Shop Culture from Monday May 17th through Saturday June 12th. The exhibition can be seen during our regular business hours: Monday – Saturday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Thursday, open to 8:00 PM
The Opening reception will take place on Wednesday May 19th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Refreshments will be served and Candacy Taylor will be on hand to talk about her work.
